Love them or well, love them even more, teddy bears are part of our children being a baby, toddler, little kid and big kid. They are so simple but seem to hold some magical power that can stop tears, and turn a frown into a smile and a bad mood into a giggle fest. I still remember my two favourite toys as a young child being Big Bear and Little Bear (followed a close third by Dolphin - but that is a story for another blog post).
It is no coincidence that so many of our favourite children's characters over the years have been bears. Think Winnie-the-Pooh, Paddington Bear, Baloo, Yogi and Boo-Boo, Smokey the Bear and our little Chloe's favourite Charlie Bear! By the way, if you have a child under 4 and have'nt seen Charlie Bear you really need to hit you-tube - You have to love, little Charlie Bear... but I digress. And of course there is the CocaCola Bears, Ted-e-bear (you tube this when your kids are not around) and Chloe's Dad's favourite - the Bundy Bear. Bears portray a sense of strength, protection and familiarity which kids love and transfers so well into Teddy Bears. A good Teddy Bear (defined as a Teddy Bear your child loves) can provide support and security, be the hero in your child's imagination and can make a lifelong companion. So it really is no surprise that a gift of a Teddy bear, whether to a child or the love of your life says so much. Its says "I care" and it says "I Love You".
I will list some interesting Plush Toy Teddy Bear facts a bit further on, but for now lets have a look what is most important - safety.
An unsafe Teddy is a bad Teddy and has no place in your home. The first test is to check the age recommendation. All our Teddy Bears at Barney's Toy Box Baby Boutique are appropriate for all ages, however we strongly recommend (as do our main supplier Korimco Plush Toys) supervision of children under 3 years of age playing with them. Next step - what are they made of? Non-toxic material are a must (and its the law) but we also prefer non-allergenic material in all our Plush Toys. Next - no small detachable parts and no long cords that could pose a choking risk. The eyes can also be an issue. We recommend no 'hard' eyes for babies under 1 year of age. Finally, it really important to regularly inspect any bear (or any toy for that matter) for wear and tear that may present a safety risk.
We scrounged the internet for some interesting Teddy Bear facts and here are our favourites:
